Organic Beetroot Seeds / Beetroot Shoots: Home Growing Instructions

Full Instructions:

  • For a seed tray use approximately 50g, for one of our punnets use approximately 10g.
  • You may find soaking the seed for an hour or 2 will help with germination
  • Fill your seed tray or punnet approximately half full of compost. Sprinkle the seed on top of the compost and spread evenly.
  • Water, using a can with a rose.
  • Keep at room temperature for 3 days, watering just enough to keep the seeds and compost moist.
  • After the fourth day, once the seeds have germinated, ensure the tray is in a light place, the brighter the better.
  • You can slow or speed the growth of the greens by manipulating the temperature. Fresh air and sunshine are what they like best, but in cold weather you will need to keep it indoors on or near a window sill. In hot weather it is better to protect the plants from direct sunshine.
  • Continue to water as above.
  • After 10-14 days, the greens will have formed the first pair of leaves and be ready to use

To harvest cut a small bundle of the greens with a sharp knife or scissors above compost surface. Rinse well before use, sprinkle on salads or use in sandwiches and enjoy.
