Never tried wheatgrass before?

Wheatgrass is one of nature's superfoods, it is the juvenile growth of the wheat or spelt seed. A popular dietary supplement referred to by health food experts as a green superfood because it has exceptional nutritional properties.

As fresh wheatgrass is a complete food for many animals, it is no surprise that is packed full of essential nutrients. These include proteins in the form of amino acids, a vast array of vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, and phytonutrients, ideal for those seeking maximum cell vitality, which is a foundation for good health.A shot of wheatgrass juice is like a single complete supplement. It is a source of B vitamins, including vitamin B12, folic acid, and also vitamins A, C, E. Wheatgrass also contains minerals: calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, zinc and selenium. Wheatgrass juice has so many properties that it needs to be taken seriously in today's world - full of stress, toxins and poor eating habits. The benefits of drinking wheatgrass can be seen in many ways - including increased vitality, well-being and energy levels.

However human beings cannot digest the grass itself so in order to have any nutritional value it needs to be passed through a masticating or cold press juicer which squeezes the blades of grass, extracting the juice. How much juice you consume is a personal preference. A 30ml “shot” should be plenty for maintaining that “bright eyed, bushy tailed” look that wheatgrass juice is famous for.

It can be an acquired taste as it is quite strong and sweet in flavour. If you find the flavour too strong it can be mixed with other fresh juices but orange juice is best avoided as it may be too acidic. We would recommend consuming it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach but it is possible to drink it any time of the day.

Wheatgrass is available in frozen form but we believe that the fresher the better. That's why we recommend starting your journey with ready grown wheatgrass and masticated hand juicer but if you are unable to juice or have no space for it, frozen wheatgrass is the best option for you. We will post it in a polystyrene box with ice packs to ensure it reaches you frozen.

A tray of our wheatgrass when fully grown should yield six to eight 30ml shots. For convenience we sell the trays in three different lengths, fully grown (ready to juice) then medium and short. The medium trays are ready in 2 – 3 days after delivery, the short 5-7 days after delivery. This ensures you have a continuous supply. The fully grown trays will keep for up to a week in cool but light conditions so that it stays green, the medium and short trays need warmth (around 20 degrees ) and light to ensure they keep growing.

An alternative to having fresh trays delivered is to have it in frozen cups. Our frozen wheatgrass juice comes in handy 30ml cups and defrosts quickly for convenience. We juice our wheatgrass every week and freeze it immediately in a blast freezer ensuring it is as fresh as possible for our customers. As this is a very popular product the turnover is high so you really are getting as fresh a batch as possible. The shelf life of the frozen cups is around 6 months. This is a much more suitable alternative if space and time are in short supply.
